After a couple of years of challenging and winning honours, Newell's Old Boys
have dropped away in the last season or two. They have made an average
kind of start to this campaign as three wins, two draws and two defeats
has them in 14th place, although victory in their game in hand tonight
could see them go as high as sixth.
Inspired by Maxi Rodriguez, I just don't think that they deserve to be odds-on shots for the visit of Union Sante Fe. The hosts have won just one of their last half dozen fixtures in front of their own fans and that came against the team who are 26th in the table.
Opponents, Union Santa Fe, on the other hand haven't lost a match of any description since September 2014. Admittedly a lot of those games came in the second tier but it's still a run of 18 fixtures - seven of which came in the top flight.
Leonardo Madelón's side beat Velez Sarsfield last time out and they have already avoided defeat against the likes of River Plate, Lanus and Independiente. All three of their matches on the road this term ended in draws and they scored seven goals in the process.
I feel that this game has been priced up on reputation as opposed to form, so with Newells trading at around the 1.94 mark, I have to make them my lay of the day.
