Women's World Cup: Germany have supplanted USA as favourites

The Women's World Cup group stages are done and the small fry have been dispensed with ahead of the round-of-16, which begins on Saturday night.
After the games in the sections, Germany have wrestled 3.40 outright favouritism away from the 3.70-rated USA, who were the pre-tournament favourites, while France remain third in the market at 8.80.
Moving in different directions in the betting, the two nations competing at the head of proceedings progressed in markedly different manners.
The USWNT ground their way through a tough section featuring Australia, Sweden and Nigeria by scoring four times and conceding once.
It was an efficient method of advancement that they had in common with hosts Canada 19.00, Brazil 12.00 and Japan 15.50, all of whom netted four times or less and were breached once or less in progressing.
Despite the fact that this trio and the USA came through tougher groups in terms of overall quality, it seems as though punters are putting faith in Sylvia Neid's ladies' hunger for goals.
Germany topped Group B with a massive plus-14 goal difference despite dropping points in a 1-1 draw with Norway, putting ten past Ivory Coast and firing four more against Thailand.
Only Switzerland, 100.00 to lift their first World Cup, even got within halfway of that figure, with their plus-seven aggregate gleaned exclusively from a 10-1 shellacking of Ecuador. Indeed, they lost their other two Group C encounters so would have been travelling home were it not for that boost.
As Ecuador had already been thumped 6-0 by Cameroon in their opener, the Swiss' potency should definitely be taken with a pinch of salt.
The South Americans subsequently went down just 1-0 to Japan, but the holders fielded a changed side having previously defeated Switzerland and Cameroon, and must be taken seriously.
Along with Brazil, they are one of only two teams left in the competition with a 100% winning record heading into the knockout phase. The Selecao in particular have to be respected as not only have they not dropped a point, but they haven't conceded either - a feat that no other survivor can rival.
